Alligator Adventure is the proud home to over 800 alligators that range in size from eight-inch infants to 15-foot adults that weigh 500 to 1,000 pounds. In the main alligator exhibit pool, more than 300 large adults wait patiently while skilled lecturers explain the facsinating life history of these ancient creatures. The talks are highlighted with staff members feeding the large reptiles by hand.

Coiled peacefully in our spacious Serpentarium are such species as the giant Green Anaconda, the world's largest snake, which can reach an estimated maximum length of over 37 feet, and the Retriculated Python which rivals the Anaconda in size and occasionally preys on deer. Many poisonous varieties are also on display including the King Cobra, which may reach 18 feet in length, and is considered by some to be the most intelligent snake. This exhibit is considered by many to be one of the best reptile houses in any zoological park!

North American river otters are powerful and graceful swimmers known for their playfulness. They were once found from Alaska to Florida.

Our otters seem to have 2 speeds, wide awake (crazy & playful), and fast asleep. They get a commercially prepared zoo diet, but we give them occasional treats such as cooked shrimp, sardines, hotdogs, and even marshmallows.

Beavers are the second largest rodents in the world. Known for building dams, canals and lodges - this semi-aquatic and noctural species is both native to North America and Europe.

Beavers are unique animals with webbed hind-feet and scaly tails. Though their building skills may be complex, they rely on smell, hearing and touch as they have poor eyesight.

Lemurs live in families called troops. There is one female leader called the queen. This lemur species is called the “sun worshiper” as every morning they sunbathe in the warm sun.

Here at Alligator Adventure we keep our lemurs busy with enrichment activities to mimic their search for food in the wild. New tasks and toys are important for primates in captivity to keep them happy and healthy!
